What are the mugs made of? If they are made of something like stainless steel without an interior plastic or resin lining, then the vinegar and water trick should work well enough. If they are made of another material, vinegar and water may not work.

You could also try an ordinary denture tablet (they are made to clean plastics and ceramics and will sometimes do a good job on mugs.)

Some stainless mugs also have a problem with the plastic 'hardware' that is attached to the outside for screw threads and maybe a plastic lip around the top. Water can get under these plastic parts and carry an odor. (I have a water bottle with this problem.) The solution is to hand wash the article and make certain to shift it in the dish drainer a couple of times to get all of the drops of water out.

I would advise you to just get one mug for coffee and one mug for everything else. If it's that bad then there must be nothing you can do to fix it... Just get a second mug :)

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he actually bought me lunch because I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch!

Use some baking soda and vinegar - it will make a "volcano" effect first. Fill the mugs and then just leave it and let it sit in the cups overnight. That should take care of it.

Try filling the cup 1/4 full with vinegar and the rest with water. Let it sit overnight and then rinse and let air dry. Once it's dry, you won't be able to taste it.

Try soaking them in bleach water. If that doesnt work get new mugs and only use them for anything but coffee.

I've heard that using a baking soda and vinegar will do the trick in removing the coffee taste from your mug. make sure to let it sit overnight and then rinse. :)
