If coffee grinds are supposed to be good for plants, what about just watering plants with stale coffee sometim

C. J. N asked:

I have a pot of coffee left over from yesterday. I usually save the grinds for my raised bed garden, and it just occurred to me to just use the stale coffee. What do you think?

coffee

The owner of our local donut shop has a massive ivy plant in the shop. Ive never seen anything like it! He told me his secret is that he feeds the plant the left over coffee everyday. I’d give it a try!

It’ll definitely keep the plants awake.

It should be fine, good way to utilize something that would probably just go down the drain

Coffee grinds are good for acid loving plants.

Coffee grounds are OK for plants that like acidic soil. They break down slowly and provide nutrients. I would think that adding coffee directly to the soil would make it too acidic for many plants and provide too much nutrition in a short time. However, there is no harm in trying brewed coffee on a plant in the garden (rather than in a pot). It will make for expensive fertilizer, however.

Research your plants – some thrive on coffee, some don’t (it’s too much acid for the plant). But you can use coffee on plants -that is what our science dept. does on campus.

if you have a LOT of stale coffee, spray it on plants outside that slugs are bothering…. they **** it…. little dabs of coffee on houseplants is fine… all things in moderation…. a full cuppa is prob not going to be liked much….. you cannot substitute coffee for water, in other words…..
