espresso machine

You’ll find your Krups coffee and espresso machine will make good coffee and espresso every time for years to come if you just remember to do a bit of maintenance. Nothing difficult, but it is important for the long life of your machine.

Most important is cleaning the frothing spout. You must do this every time you use it. Pull the rubber tip off and run it under the faucet well so that all the milk residue is rinsed away.

Turn the steam on again to blow through the spout without any thing around it. You’re blowing any residue of milk or water deposits out of the stem. It only takes 2-3 seconds, but it is super important. It doesn’t seem to take much for the stem to clog, so don’t forget.

Even if you are faithful to the spout, mineral deposits do sometimes occur, and the steam won’t blow through the stem. But, this is fixable, too. Get a pin or bend a paper clip and poke it up into the stem as best you can. Then clean the tank.

To clean the tank, put about a cup of water in the tank, (more if your Krups coffee maker has a regular coffee maker size tank,) and about 1/4 cup of white vinegar. That’s a 4-1 ratio, more or less. Run it through a regular full cycle, and blow some through the frothing stem. If it doesn’t seem to want to go through the stem, keep trying with 4 or 5 bursts, then wait 20-30 seconds and try again. It should clear for you.

These two little chores have kept me enjoying lattes for about 10 years now. The only trouble I’ve had is my own doing – I broke the espresso carafe. Klutz! Fortunately, they are replaceable.
